My name is Danny Diliberto. I’m the founder of Ladles of Love – I set up Ladles 4.5 years ago with one purpose: to provide healthy, delicious food for people in need, served in love and without judgement.
On 29th Nov 2018, I’m undertaking my biggest challenge yet – to live for 48 hours as a homeless person might on the streets of Cape Town, and creating a documentary. I’ll show you the good, the bad and the ugly – it’ll be an true account of my experiences.
So why am I doing this?
I want to experience a taste of what is really means to be homeless and share that with you. I think it’s important to understand just how challenging life on the streets can be – all too often we dismiss homeless people as ‘lazy’ and say they ‘must just get a job’. But is it really that simple?!
We all complain, we all moan about it from time-to-time. But what are we doing about it? There is a general feeling of helplessness from the public… I hear it at our soup kitchens a lot. People want to see change, but we simply don’t know how to help. I want to encourage people to be proactive and show you exactly where and how you can have an impact.
I’ll be spending time with the people for whom this is everyday life, as well as visiting shelters, soup kitchens and other homeless support organisations to find out what help is really out there already. I hope to show you some awesome local charities that you can support if you want to help homeless people but don’t know how.
I’m undertaking this challenge on behalf of Ladles of Love – my goal is a biggie, to raise R48,000. All of the money raised will go back into the Ladles of Love soup kitchens – it will fund 4,800 more meals for homeless people.
To be perfectly honest with you, I’m nervous as hell about this challenge. I have no idea what to expect, or how easy or difficult this will be. But I’m excited to have the chance to really better my understanding of the issues at play – I believe that through doing this, I will be better placed to get other people talking and interested in finding sustainable solutions to homelessness.
Please sponsor me so I can beat my R48,000 target and make a REAL impact for Ladles of Love. Click here to donate via my Backabuddy campaign.
